Production of aviation fuel with negative emissions via chemical looping gasification of biogenic residues: Full chain process modelling and techno-economic analysis

The second-generation bio aviation fuel production via Chemical Looping Gasification (CLG) of biomass combined with downstream Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis is a possible way to decarbonize sector. CLG process has the advantage producing undiluted syngas without use an air-separation unit (ASU) and improved yield compared conventional gasification processes. This study based on modelling full chain liquid (BtL) LD-slag Ilmenite as oxygen carriers using Aspen Plus software, validating model results experimental studies carrying out techno-economic analysis process. For gasifier load 80 MW LHV entering gasifier, optimal predicts that clean energy content 8.68 MJ/Nm3 cold-gas efficiency 77.86%. optimized also estimates around 340 bbl/day 155 k-tonne CO2 captured every year conversion FT-crude 38.98%. calculated Levelized Cost Fuel (LCOF) 35.19 $ per GJ FT crude, annual plant profit (cash inflow) 11.09 M$ payback period 11.56 years for initial investment.
